Santo Tirso is a Portuguese city belonging to the District of Porto, with 14 107 inhabitants in its urban perimeter (2011). The city of Santo Tirso was the birthplace of the industrialization of textiles in Portugal. The factory Wiring and Textiles Rio Vizela, founded in 1845, was the first branch unit in the country, also becoming the largest Portuguese factory. The patron saint is Saint Benedict and is celebrated annually on 11 July, which is why it is the municipal holiday.
