Around the Air Force: New Uniforms / Pilot Training App

HEY THERE EVERYONE, I’M AIRMAN FIRST CLASS
ANGELO ROSARIO WITH YOUR LOOK AROUND THE AIR FORCE. AIRMEN CAN EXPECT A HUGE CHANGE IN THE NEAR
FUTURE. AIR FORCE LEADERS ANNOUNCED THAT THE SERVICE
WILL MOVE TO A SINGLE COMBAT UTILITY UNIFORM BY ADOPTING THE OPERATIONAL CAMOUFLAGE PATTERN, OR O-C-P, ALREADY IN USE BY THE ARMY. THE PATCHES AND NAMETAPES ON THE NEW UNIFORM ARE EXPECTED TO PRESERVE SERVICE AND SQUADRON IDENTITY. FEEDBACK FROM THE FORCE INDICATES MALE AND
FEMALE AIRMEN FIND THAT THE O-C-P PROVIDES A BETTER FIT AND FUNCTIONALITY. THE UNIFORM WILL ROLL OUT ACROSS THE FORCE
OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS. WHILE SOME AIR FORCE MEMBERS ALREADY WEAR
THE O-C-P, SUCH AS AIRMEN IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND AIR FORCE GLOBAL STRIKE COMMAND SECURITY
FORCES, THE AIR FORCE WILL ALLOW AIRMEN TO PURCHASE AND WEAR O-C-Ps BEGINNING OCTOBER
1ST OF THIS YEAR. BY APRIL 1ST, 2021, ALL AIRMEN WILL BE REQUIRED
TO WEAR THE O-C-P, AND THE CURRENT AIRMAN BATTLE UNIFORM, OR A-B-U, WILL BE NO MORE. THE 80TH FLYING TRAINING WING AT SHEPPARD
AIR FORCE BASE, TEXAS DEVELOPED A NEW APP THAT CONSOLIDATES OVER 15-HUNDRED DOCUMENTS
AND MAKES THEM AVAILABLE TO PILOTS ON A HAND-HELD DEVICE. PILOTS NEED TO BECOME FLUENT IN REFERENCE
TRAINING MANUALS, EMERGENCY PROCEDURES, AND OTHER DOCUMENTS. THE APP ALLOWS STUDENT PILOTS IN THE EURO-NATO JOINT JET PILOT TRAINING PROGRAM TO ACCESS THE DOCUMENTS THEY NEED TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH, WHEREVER THEY ARE. AIR EDUCATION AND TRAINING COMMAND’S CONTINUUM OF LEARNING ENCOURAGES UNITS TO DEVELOP TRAINING THAT’S EASILY CONSUMABLE. A MAJORITY OF STUDENTS ATTENDING UNDERGRADUATE PILOT TRAINING ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 30. THE APP IS A MORE INTUITIVE WAY FOR THE NEXT
GENERATION OF PILOTS TO LEARN. STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO GET A PASSWORD AND
JOIN THE APP, ACCESS IS DISABLED ONCE THEY COMPLETE TRAINING. FOR MORE STORIES AFFECTING AIRMEN AND THEIR
FAMILIES VISIT THE AIR FORCE’S OFFICIAL WEBSITE, A-F DOT MIL. AND THAT’S YOUR LOOK AROUND THE
AIR FORCE.

  1. I prefer the ones we got in kandahar over the new ones. Also they aren’t really good, they tear easily, but come with patches to fix holes though it’s stated you cannot repair this uniform, I suggest if you’re maintenance just bumming in basketball shorts a tan tee and coveralls.

  2. You desk jockies better not even touch one of those OCPs. I swear the only thing you guys need to blend in with is your desk

  3. Why the new fucking uniforms, just stick with your shitty abu so you blend in air conditioned buildings and North Dakota patriot missle sites

  4. The Air Force is going back to the concept of the old BDUs. Use the stuff that the Army uses. The Army OCP should have been adopted way back when, before the Army adopted using the horribly designed cammo on the ACUs. The ACUs really sucked as a uniform during my combat deployments in Iraq. The only reason I think the Army stuck with this design was to stand out with the old uniforms like the Chocolate Chip and DCUs we gave to the Iraqi Army and Police. As infantrymen we stuck out easy but we can easily identify our guys when conducting combat operations and patrols. The Army ACUs had no cammo value in any terrain unless it was Mom's old green couch with leaf patterns in the living room. Hey it only took more than a decade for the Army to realize this.

  5. WTF Is wrong with the AF u guys wear sky blue represents the sky u guys fly on and green is for the strong ones on the field marines and army TF u guys don't need to wear green lol

  6. Thank God for the zipper man. Will make it much easier to get out of my uniform at 3:45 when I make it home

  7. OCP's is a stupid look for us. Why can't we design something different from other branches. We still sucking on the Army's tits.SMH

  8. Glad the Air Force and Navy are finally going to a real camo pattern instead of trying to make a fashion statement.

  9. I love the AF but changing to this uniform to look like its more combat ready isn't the best use of American taxpayers' money.

  10. In other words: Starting in October, the hassle of constantly having to adjust your shoulder patches every time you wear anything with shoulder straps or a sling will no longer be unique to the Army.

  11. This airman did a great job. Also, I'm excited for the new uniforms. OCP is much more comfortable for women.

  12. I got my OCPs issued a year ago. I'm so glad these are going to be USAF wide. This uniform is so much more comfortable and functional!

  13. The Airforce is like the annoying lil brother who's destined to be smarter than you and you're forced to take with you EVERYWHERE you go.

  14. I still say the BDU and DCUs were working just right. I should have seen this coming. In 10 years the USAF will change its uniform again.

  15. All these soldiers talking shit about the Air Force are probably non combat soldiers. Combat tested soldiers know that Airmen are needed when shit hits the fan. You won’t talk shit when an a-10 saves your ass or you won’t talk shit to the officer flying the aircrafts that’s dropping off you airborne soldiers.

  16. I don’t know why the Air Force would decide to look like the Army. The new uniform pattern is tacky & a waste taxpayers’ money.

  17. awww man so this is forreal huh, dang i was really looking forward to wearing the digital camo, in my opinion this isn't flitting for the usaf should of stuck to the former one

  18. Pretty upsetting that the Army Commandant allowed the Air Force to pawn the Army’s uniform. The uniform was designed by Soldiers. The Army owns the copyrights. We are completely different branches with completely different missions.

  19. About time. More functional design and cheaper logistically, less hassle to outfit people when they deploy, all around better idea.

  20. I saw an airman were his camo and I was in mines and I was blown away when I saw the brown patches I thought he was in the army also. I get it the air force never forgot where it came from.

  21. The Air Force needs to come up with their own camo or stay with the ABUs, and not steal/take the army’s idea to use the ocps. Plus the ocps are for the ARMY, not the chair force

  22. I'm retired air force. I would rather have the air force bring back the 100% all cotton olive drab utility uniforms with blue and white chevrons and name tags along with the colorful MAJCOM insignia on the pockets. Which were the norm uniforms during the Vietnam War. Short sleeves or long sleeves. They were very comfortable. They kept you cool in summer and warm in winter. You can't beat 100% cottons. Also bring back the khaki 1505's uniforms. You'll get a lot of people signing up in the recruiters office. This uniform won't do it.

  23. I joined the U.S. Air Force in 1982, and 20 years later retired in 2002. I have since been retired for 17 years. During this period of approximately 37 years I have seen the "utility" uniform change 4 times. When I first joined it was a single green uniform called fatigues. That was a long time ago.
