Automatic Foreign Object Detection in Textiles – Inwatec’s X-ray Unit ODIN

Inwatec’s X-ray scanning system enables an automatic detection of foreign objects in soiled textiles. The displayed version is a manual-feed stand-alone system. It consists of an inlet conveyor, an X-ray scanner, and one reject-module. The system checks each textile for foreign objects. Garments containing foreign objects are rejected below. Approved garments are fed to a trolley or conveyor. The machine’s software is specially trained on textiles. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) automatically distinguishes between zippers/buttons and foreign objects. It recognises pens, needles, paper clips, scissors, and similar – and also rejects all unknown objects that could destroy clothes and machines. Depending on the operator speed, this system can scan 1,500 to 2,200 pieces per hour. The smart conveyor setup allows a high speed with minimum mechanical wear-off. Resulting in less down-times and low maintenance costs. The Artificial Intelligence is continuously trained at Inwatec by a collection of more than one million X-ray pictures. To ensure an even better detection rate and to eliminate all those harmful objects before washing and drying.
