Class of 2019 White Coat Ceremony

Class of 2019 White Coat Ceremony

Dean Flynn: I’m Stuart Flynn; I’m the dean of the Medical School… …and I feel very, very privileged to
welcome you… …and to moderate today’s White Coat Ceremony. Associate Dean Cunningham: So I will announce each student, they will walk across the stage and be coated before moving down… …the way to pick up their book and
their stethoscope. Alessandro Carotenuto, MS1: Lot of emotions going on…kind of like…almost like a sigh of relief… …of all the culmination of all the hard work that I’ve done…and, uh, all the steps that I’ve taken… to get this point; so there’s a little bit of that, there’s a little bit of excitement, uh… …for the future, a lot of nervousness; um, kind of just a whole… …a whole palette of emotions at the moment. Luce Auriane, MS1: Growing up and saying ‘I want to be a doctor,’ and here I am… …wearing my White Coat today, so it’s
definitely a big, emotional day for us. Thanh Cao, MS1: A lot of the excitement that’s going on right now is my nerves kind of running s little bit. It’s hard to distinguish what it actually feels like, but It’s just a lot of excitement right now. Bill Dolan, MD: Your healing touch can make miracles happen. Alessandro Carotenuto, MS1: My grandmother suffers from Alzheimer’s and so I, but… …she doesn’t live in states, so I took it
upon myself to go help… …those that can I reach. It kind of
verified my, my love for patient care. Luce Auriane, MS1: Because I was born in the Ivory Coast, which is in Western Africa, and then growing up, you know, and seeing poverty and social injustice… …then coming here to the US and comparing both lives and seeing how you can improve… ….so much by being a physician. It was definitely like a turning point for me. Thanh Cao, MS1: I’ve always been inspired with science, and..uh…had a keen interest in science… …but it’s that connection that you have
with your patients is what motivated me; that… …this is what I wanted to do: take science
to a different level and… …move from the bench side to the bedside and provide that compassion and care. Bill Dolan, MD: Congratulations again, Class of 2019. We’re with you… …we’re here for you all the way; god bless
you…welcome aboard. Alessandro Carotenuto, MS1: The world better look out cause the Class of 2019’s on its way.
