Delphine Dénéréaz – Textile Design

I’m Delphine and I’m a textile designer. I practice weaving, knitwear and prints. I have been living in Brussels for 8 years, I studied here and I now work since three years at this place: a house in which I run a little shop I’ve started with befriended designers. I work here, but I also sell my objetcs and produtcs. I like to start from existing objects such as postcards. I also have this project with soccer fan scarves. I appropriate these objects and rework them into new creations. For example, for this piece, this carpet that I’m currently weaving, I incorporate my old school assignments, at least the failed ones, by cutting them into strips that I interweave again. I think it’s something personal. I love memories, I love to remember things and moments. I also like to intervene in stories that are not mine. Reading a message on the back of a postcard and then keeping that in mind to invent something new. What I also like is that such objects are often part of the collective subconsciousness. Everyone wrote a postcard once, everyone knows exactly what it is, these are popular items that I like to understand and appropriate. I decided to isolate a word in there scarves. “Fan” or “super” for example or “for ever”, all generic words. By tearing these scarves down, I removed all references to the club, the city or logos. I only kept the words that have a meaning that people can appropriate. Everyone understands what these words mean, everyone wants to support it. That’s why I keep only those words when I knit the yarn back together.
