Fabric Trends

all right Jeffrey as my other right-hand man that's right into your designer I want to talk to you a little bit about fabric trends just because it's one of the major components in interior design today and people often ask what's in style what are they seeing lots of so over to you what do you think what do you think is in style today when it comes to fabric well I mean I can never say not color well there's got to be number one mm-hmm this is where we would differ just a little tiny bit I think color is a big factor but not always this fabric right okay I'll give you that okay maybe on the walls maybe an accent pillows but four major pieces of furniture what do you see coming texture I agree with you and natural natural lots of natural some natural fibers I have here some samples of materials that are made from companies that really do do a lot in the natural fiber area hmm now I know I know they're beautiful lots of slums and lots of that look of linen of Cotton's things that we haven't seen from the 80s I remember the 80s I'm sure you don't put that aside it's one of the things that's really important is that if you are going to use a natural fiber you have to really be careful not to use it if you want it to be perfect all the time because linen does not beautifully it wrinkles a little bit it does so if you want that sort of a shabby chic look that return to that look from the 80s and that's a great way to go if you don't there's a lot of fibers it look like linen but wash and wear like a polyester right or you can get a blend that's a little bit of both right if it was blended yeah maybe a percentage you would think to have a mere upholstery I would do 5050 so half linen half rayon cotton rayon cotton poly something like that anything natural mixed with a little bit that's right Billy with manufacturing yes as much as we don't like to bring up nylon and rayon really good in upholstery fabric because they do help to give you that wearability doesn't work this is wool by the way which has really made a huge return yeah it's beautiful and the colors like well I know it's amazing so will is a very nice fabric that's returned it's got a lot of really great qualities in terms of wear and again if durability I see some great patterns here so pattern pattern has made a comeback and this is what I want to talk about her what are some of the key patterns that you're seeing with our clients since we work together with our clients what are some of the things that you're seeing come back in terms of pattern choices well these all are great examples like they're very graphic they're very bold in their nature they're oversized they're not understated whatsoever not at all if we go through each of these this is one of my favorite this kind of reminds me of the 1960s kind of grid work You Reverend what am I saying everyone the brickwork in the 60s and you had sort of those bricks that were cut out you see them in Florida still a little bit I think that this is a really great example of an iron work design of traditional colors big pattern nice repeat on it and this one is really nice from Robert Allen and it's just what I love about this is it's a version of natural so we've birds in it and in flowers that it's not what I would call a typical floral seeing a lot of this in bed and bath definitely and sign that pen and ink look – looks like it's hand drawn very much which again gives it that really natural feel which we're seeing a lot in the marketplace so natural doesn't have to mean you have sticks and twigs all over the house it can be versions of this kind of fabric worn in this is really different I've seen a lot of this but I love it this is a linen so it is a natural fiber the colors are 1982 at the best so seafoam green dusty rose does this one okay I don't want to talk about your anyway what's interesting about this is it's really a deco pattern and so the 1930s or 40s have come back to start the influenced fabric again in a very strong way and last but not least this is my favorite I want to make pillows out of this from my own house I would probably agree with you this is a pretty amazing texture and color and pattern now you see here's where you and I are different I would make pillows out of this but I know that you put this on a chair in a second look Edward and I had oh my goodness I would never think of doing that well what's kind of cool about this is this is the other big trend of seeing in the market is the return to native prints or patterns now at first blush you wouldn't think this was a native inspired piece but the idea of the medallion very crisp edges it really does have almost you can almost relate it to a Gaelic style or a Native American pattern it even has touches of a new modern floral that makes it passes that graphic so to sum up trends that we're seeing color against your pattern and large pattern up so big and bold and not everything not just kept to the minor leagues anymore I love that it's not my favorite mm-hmm this new will get there yeah I guess
