High Gloss Clear Coat a Bar Top

In this video I’ll be showing you how to resin an outdoor bar top and we even embedded a coin in one of the cracks in the wood. So here’s a fun little project that I’m doing with my neighbour! He’s building an outdoor bar/shed. So his bar top is going to be made out of this nice wood. I think it’s cedar. And we are covering it in ArtResin. Now, ArtResin is great for bar tops, it gets nice and hard. And we did a first coat over the whole thing, not using too much resin, just because on your first coat with wood, lots of times it will just get soaked right in and you’ll lose a lot of resin. So we have it lifted up on baby blocks so that the drips can fall off. Just pour it over the whole thing, spread it out, rub the sides with some gloves, and then rub off the bottom drips. Then let it sit overnight. Here I am, day 2. It’s cured, it’s hard, it’s not sticky any more. We did our first coat, and the point of the first coat is to fill up these craters so that we can embed this Canadian loonie in about half way. So we filled that up with resin. It will get its hardest after about 3 days. What I’m going to do now, is I’m going to fill up these cracks so that every single crack and dent is totally flush with this surface. That’s the second coat. I’m going to wait till that dries, then I’m going to sand the whole thing down with a power sander, just to give our final coat something to grip onto, and to make sure everything’s nice and level. So this final coat will just have a flat surface to be applied on. So once again, I’ll set it up. I’ll clean it off. It looks really scratchy, but don’t worry, when you pour overtop, that all goes away. Again, just mix up equal parts. This is about 7 square feet. This 32 oz kit covers 8 square feet I’m just going to use a bit less than the full 32 oz Starter Kit to do this bar top. Pour it over the whole thing. Push it around, wipe the edges and then take a torch, get rid of all the bubbles. Use our pre-made boxes to protect it from dust Let it sit overnight, and we’re done. That’s it. Install it… and have a beer!
