How to Make a Circus Ringleader Costume – Easy DIY Halloween | Care.com

Hi! I’m Katie from Care.com and today
we’re going to turn this animal lover into a circus ringleader. Let’s start the
show! We have a long-sleevered, red, grown-up shirt and this is a size small. Then black felt and white felt and gold ribbon and these will be the
accessories and trim. Gold iron-on letters and will spell ring leader
across the back, top hat, a mustache and then we’ll pair this with black pants
and long black socks and black shoes so I’m just gonna fold this in half to find
a natural middle and iron it to create that crease and then I’ll cut along the
crease. First we’ll make some lapels. I’ll take a piece of the white felt, fold it
down the middle, and cut. Add your glue along the edges, and you’ll put this
flush with the edge here to start giving your shirt that real suit feel.
We’ll create six suit jacket buttons and I’m just tracing the bottom of a glass.
You can fold this over, cut two out at a time. So now we’re gonna create a jagged
hemline and what I did was I made two triangles, starting about five inches
down from the lapel I made a mark then went down to one short triangle back to
the five inch line and then a longer triangle. These can be pretty rough cuts
because you’re gonna line them with gold ribbon. And you’re gonna take the
gold ribbon and line it around the edges and make even cuts. You’ll fold it and
then glue it to each edge. And I’m keeping the frayed end at the top cuz
we’ll add a little black piece of felt give it a little detail. So we’re just
making small circles to add to the top of the gold. To create a nice cuff we’re
going to cut this t-shirt cuff off and then line it with the gold ribbon. So
you’ll take the edge of the shirt roll it up a little bit to get rid of that
frayed shirt look, and start at one seam and using your hot glue, glue it into
place all the way around. Glue on the top and the bottom and you’ll have a nice
cuff! So we’re just going to attach this stiff piece of black felt to the collar
area and you can add another piece of colorful felt in middle and even spray
with some glitter glue spray. So your end result before adding the iron-on letters
should look something like this. We even added some velcro in the center to help
it stay in place. So for some finishing touches, we want to put the word ringleader or circus master across the back by ironing these gold letters right
onto the shirt and before your child goes out the door make sure he or she
has a top hat we added some gold ribbon, and of course a mustache! Thanks so much for watching! Please stay tuned for more easy DIY Halloween costumes from Care.com That’s it for now folks!
