How to Make a Garment Rail with Shoe Rack from Scaffold

Hi I’m Woody, a designer and maker of industrial style furniture. This week I’ll be sharing with you my design and instructions for making a DIY freestanding garment hanging rail with integrated shoe rack and a really cool scaffold board display shelf. Stay Tuned! The PDF component and cutting lists that go with these videos can be instantly downloaded for my Etsy store by following the link on my youtube channel. I price them at no more than a few beers and your contributions really help to finance independent designers and makers like me, to keep innovating and sharing. The tools you need for this job are a quarter inch hex key, a four millimeter hex key, a 10 millimeter spanner, an electric drill or impact driver. If you intend fixing metal band ends on the scaffold shelf you’ll also need a bog-standard hammer. If you intend cutting the scaffold boards to size yourself instead of ordering them pre-cut, you’ll also need a tape measure, a pencil, a large screwdriver or blunt chisel to remove the existing scaffold board ends, a circular saw, jigsaw or reciprocating saw to cut the boards. Now if you want to finish the boards instead of leaving them in their raw state you’ll also need an electric sander although hand sanding will be fine, your choice of stain, varnish, preservative or paint. Finally if you intend cutting the cable basket tray yourself instead of ordering it pre-cut, you’ll need a grinder or similar metal cutting tool with a metal cutting disk.
