Let’s begin in Uzbekistan where President
Park Geun-hye is close to wrapping up her first full day of state visit there…
President Park Geun-hye and her Uzbek counterpart agreed to expand economic cooperation in the
areas of energy, environment and textiles. During their summit in Tashkent Tuesday, President
Park and President Islam Karimov spoke about boosting the participation of Korean businesses
in a 4 billion U.S. dollar Uzbek gas field project… and in the construction of a 300
million dollar solar plant in Samarkand. Seoul is also interested in helping the city
of Samarkand set up a waste management system, and building a textile complex in Tashkent.
The Uzbek leader also endorsed President Park’s Eurasia Initiative, which aims to re-connect
the Far East and Europe through Central Asia,… by linking energy and logistics infrastructure
across the continent. President Park will also visit Kazakhstan
and Turkmenistan during her week-long trip to Central Asia.
