Lisa Van Nuland – BA(Hons) Fashion and Textiles

My name is Lisa Van Nuland and I chose this
course because I wanted the things that I make to be seen daily instead of just being
in the museums and fashion is sort of a natural progression to that. My project is about certain
natural areas in Scotland. When I was in these natural areas, I took a lot of photographs
and did a lot of research. Personally, I have a very deep love for nature so going out in
there it evokes all these emotions in me. I know I’m not alone when I say that going
into the nature, a lot of emotions take hold of me. I tried to take those certain emotions
that I felt in those spaces and show them on a fabric to get an emotive texture on the
fabric and from that to look at sacred geometry where everything tends to follow a particular
path and particular symmetry and what I’m trying to do is I’m trying to intervene these
by going though the motives of the texture and geometrics into more sort of less coloured
and white fabrics and what I’m trying to do now is interlink them to make a collection.
I’d love to take this further. I’m really into sustainability and there’s lots of practices
within that that I want to explore and I really want to take what I’m doing here further.
My dissertation is also on a topic how the way we dress can influence happiness and well-being
and that is something I want to take further in the things I make as well, somehow interlink
those and make practice out of it.
