MCC Career Services Appropriate Interview Attire

[MUSIC PLAYING] Hi. Hi. Yeah, Hi. My name is Justice. Yes. I have an interview in
about four-ish hours, and I don’t know if I’ll
have time to stop home. I have a few other
classes to do. Is this OK to wear,
or can I go like this? What are you interviewing for? Bank teller. You definitely need to change. OK. Do you have dress pants? Yes, Do you have a shirt
with a collar? Yes. Do you have a tie? Bow tie. Is it normal? Black. So you have a bow
tie, dress shirt– does it all match nicely? Yeah. OK. I mean, it’s mostly black, yeah. Let’s talk a little
bit about that. For a professional
interview, you want to dress similar to what
the people are dressing there. Some people believe you
want to dress a step up from what they have there. So you want to look nice. You want to impress, but
you don’t want to be gaudy. OK. You sound like
you’re a little bit fashion minded with some bright
colors and things like that. You want to be conservative. OK. Banks tend to be a
bit conservative. A bow tie’s OK. Ideally, you want
to dress- if you had a suit, that would be perfect. If you don’t have a suit– Yeah, I don’t. –dress pants, a nice
shirt, with the buttons, a nice collared shirt that
buttons, a bow tie’s good, shoes, something that’s
appropriate, no flip-flops, no [INAUDIBLE], things like that. Socks would be a good thing. You want to dress nicely. Now, the thing you
also have to remember is that most of the people
you’d be working with could be older than you. The people that
tend to hire you are going to be older, so they
tend to be a little bit– could be a little bit more
conservative than you are. So you want to dress nice. You also remember at the
bank or any customer service organization, you’re
representing the organization that you work for, so you
want to dress the part. If you were hanging
out at a surf shop, if you were selling sunglasses
and things like that, this would maybe be appropriate. But you’re not, sorry. So you want to dress the part. So that’s what you want to do. That other thing is, do
you have a portfolio? Do you have something like this? No. OK. You need something like this. You want to dress important. You want to impress. You want to show that
you’re taking advantage of the opportunity
to impress someone, so you want to
look professional. You want a portfolio
with a notepad in there with questions on it. You want to have a
copy of your resume, have a pen, you want to
turn off your cell phone, but have it accessible
if they look for dates for future interviews. OK? OK. So you kind of want
to be impressive. Also want to take the glasses
and put them in your pocket, don’t put on top of your head. OK. It’s OK to be
fashionable, but there’s times you need to
play by their rules. Anything else I can help
you with dress wise? No. I don’t believe so. OK. You’ll be OK with it. Are you comfortable, or
is that not your style? Yeah, I just have to go
make sure that I have– Yeah. And so you do that, and again,
if you’re looking for jobs, you’re going to have to invest
in some business clothing. Yeah. OK? Right. Anything else, give me a call. We can talk about that. Let me know how
the interview goes. It’s kind of late to
prepare for an interview, but you need to have done
that a day or two before. Yeah, I’m sorry. That’s OK. This semester was too crazy. So, we learn from our mistakes
and you just move forward. Career services can help
you with a lot of things, help you get your career going,
and so we’ll go from there. OK? OK Great. Awesome. Nice to meet you. Take care. Thank you. [MUSIC PLAYING]
