MD White Coat Ceremony Class of 2020

MD White Coat Ceremony Class of 2020

Please join me in welcoming the
Eastern Virginia Medical School M.D. Class of 2020. I am so excited. I’ve wanted this forever. The first thing I can
remember ever wanting to do is become a doctor. My family gave me a
little fake stethoscope when I was really young. And ever since then, I’ve
wanted to be a doctor. So being here
today is validation that yes, I’m almost there. A lot of people ask
me where I’m from. And I grew up in Indiana. I was born in Australia,
and I moved to the US. But the first day
of medical school, I realized I’m from medicine. I grew up on a medical campus. My mom and my dad both dedicated
their lives to service, and that’s something
I wanted for myself. It’s something I wanted
to share with everyone I come into contact with. It’s not about your grade. It’s not about you. It’s about reaching
your potential, to be the best physician you
can be for your patients. When you come to EVMS, there
is such a clear difference in the environment
between schools. And it was just so
warm and welcome, and people are saying hi to
you and smiling and happy, and I just really love that. The general vibe
here and the vibe I got from the people that
interviewed me was incredibly much more friendly. There was little to no
pretension about people. I think everybody
here was just– they all seemed here for
the right reasons. With the proper
care, your white coat will represent education,
compassion, support, and so much more. So wear it proudly. Congratulations, Class of 2020. [MUSIC PLAYING]
