MD White Coat Ceremony Class of 2022

MD White Coat Ceremony Class of 2022

[MUSIC PLAYING] Today is our white
coat ceremony. It’s the day that we get
coated, and it’s officially our entrance into medicine. Starting today, we know we are
going to be doctors some day. All the work up until this
point, really has paid off. It’s sort of a culmination
of the road to get here. You know? It’s a long road that
everyone’s traveled to get here. It just means
everything to think I’m starting on this
new phase of life, new journey towards what I’ve
wanted to do since I was a kid. For me, it’s just a symbol of
just showing all our hard work. We worked so hard to get here. And I think most importantly,
just taking a step back and realizing we’re so
privileged to be in this space, because I think all the times we
worked so hard and just focused on studying that we don’t
realize, hey, I’ve made it here and this is a really
huge accomplishment. That’s what it means to me,
the white coat ceremony. Life is about connectedness
and about relationships. That starts with each
other in this class. I was shadowing a doctor,
and we had our first code, and we went in, and I saw her
just take control of the room. And I just looked at her, and I
was like, I want that to be me. I need to do that. I need to get there. And so from that moment on,
medicine has been my goal. And we finally made it. I am absolutely most
interested in developing real relationships with
people, making sure that those genuine,
authentic relationships still exist between patients
and their doctor and the patient’s
family and their nurses and everybody who’s a part
of their health care team. It’s about the patient. It’s not about disease. You think it’s about disease. It isn’t. It’s all about the patient. I think EVMS is a
great institution. I’ve only been here for a
week, but people are so caring. People are always
reaching out to help you. And I know every school says
that, but EVMS truly, truly is that institution. [MUSIC PLAYING]
