Nooteboom Textiles – Anniversary Month Interview 1


My name is Ruud Donders. My name is Rien van Oirschot My name is Jacques van Raak My name is Frans van Diessen I’ve been working for Nooteboom Textiles for over 54 years I’m now 76 and I am considering to keep on working for another 4 years. When I am 80 years old I will really retire. Ruud Donders, we needed someone for the showroom. Ruud worked in the Goirkestraat at that time at another company. So we approached Ruud when he was 21 and asked him if he would like to work with our company. And he liked it. After some time we needed a representative in Limburg, so we asked Ruud to sell to the garment industry aswel as all other customers. After that Ruud would work in Limburg aswel as in Belgium. I have started working at Nooteboom Textiles on the 1st of March 1962 At that time I was 16 years old. It wasn’t my first real job after school but almost. When I started working at Nooteboom Textiles, we were located at the Zomerstraat in Tilburg. How did I find Frans van Diessen? That’s quite easy. I knew the ‘brothers’ in Tilburg really well. And I asked a frair, that I knew really well, that I was in need of a nice and proper guy to work for me. Then he said : I think Frans van Diessen would be appropriate. “Would you like me to asked him to make an appointment with you? So he visited me. He just finished his exams. He was a nice, proper and decent guy. He started working with us and he also stayed with us till now. I’ve started working at Nooteboom Textiles in 1962, in the office. He had a brown suit and there was a brown lamp on his desk. The first tasks were to shut the shutters and clean up the cups. That was my first job because I was the youngest. I’ve hired Rien when he visited us together with his mother when he was 15. He was so small, he wasn’t able to look over the table. Together with his mother, he came to ask if it was possible to get a job. Family members of Rien were already working with us at that time. So I told Rien, that he was hired. I started working for Nooteboom Textiles when I finished school. My father was working for over 40 years at Nooteboom Textiles. Then Mr. Nooteboom asked my father : “What is your son planning to do in the future? We obvioulsy knew the Nooteboom family from home. At that time I also babysit the childern of Mr. Nooteboom. Because my father had been working with the Nooteboom family for so many years, we really appreciated them. As an agent, I have worked in Belgium. I explored the Belgian market in the late 70’s.
