  1. THESE MUSICAL PRIMITIVES MAKE EXCITING USE OF DYNAMICS AND TWISTED ARRANGEMENTS. HARVEY COMMANDS ATTENTION: SHE CUNNINGLY MIXES SENSUALITY AND FEMINIST AWARENESS IN CONVERSATIONAL HOOKS. AN AIR OF DEJA VU ALSO WAFTS AROUND THE ALBUM; NOT A SINGLE ANGRY RIFF, RAW MELODY OR THORNY LYRIC ON IT WOULD HAVE SURPRISED POST PUNK TREND SPOTTERS BACK IN 1981.

  2. Kings of Leon's 'Molly Chambers' seems to be based on this song. I wonder whether Kings of Leon knew this song and thought let's use the riff of PJ Harvey's 'Dress' for their song 'Molly Chambers'.

  3. Thanks Nath but I actually meant to write it exactly that way. Pretty wild, huh? I chose to do it even without asking your permission, imagine that.

  4. that's not an opinion, it's just blind hate. you've probably never even really listened to horses before, worm.

  5. that is really bullshit criticism though, whether or not someone is good or bad, to compare them to someone else like that doesn't do justice to them as individuals…see how we are here talking about what?

  6. they are both awesome; they both kick ass; they both have short black hair; they both have pale-ish skin; they both make and made very innovative music; and yes, they both have vaginas.

  7. this album along Exile in Guyville by Liz Phair show that woman think about sex as man do

  8. I don't see this annoying comparison with Patti Smith. Seems like a lot of peeps just parroting what they've seen or read somewhere. PJ has far more variety in her music, and her voice sounds nothing like Patti's. Furthermore Patti tended to indulge in long improvisations of songs lasting several minutes. PJ's songs even when performed live hardly last much over 4 minutes. She rarely allows a guitar solo in a song.So where's the similarity?

  9. @Alec0209 If she continued writing albums like Dry,then she would be repeating herself and wouldn't be a true artist.

  10. I feel like this song is the prequel Man Size, or Man Size its sequel. the videos even seem to reference it…this song is one of the reasons I'm sad PJ didn't continue writing albums like Dry

  11. her first 3 albums were amazing………….havent heard anything quite like her since
90's were the last best generation of music…………..

  12. I remember when PJ hit the scene. For me she filled the gap left when Pattis Smith retired years previously.

  13. Great song! WHFS (Washington DC) had a version recorded in the studio that was just her and an acoustic guitar, and it totally ROCKED! I wish I could find it somewhere, but it was never released commercially.
