Popular Gaston Couny fabric store closing down

ALL RIGHT. THE DEBATE, ONGOING. THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE, TINA. A GASTON COUNTY STORE THAT PROVIDED FABRIC FOR PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD, WILL END NEARLY 70 YEARS OF BUSINESS IN A FEW WEEKS TIME. THE OWNER OF MARY JO’S CLOTH STORE SAYS HE IS NO LONGER COMPETE IN A CHANGING MARKET. HE TOLD KEN LEMON, THE PERSON WHO WAS THE HEART OF THE BUSINESS PASSED AWAY FIVE MONTHS AGO. TO THIS DAY, MARY JO’S CLOTH PROVIDES PIECES THAT ADDRESS THE WORLD. BUT MORE AND MORE THE WORLD NO LONGER NEEDS THEIR PIECES. WE’RE THE LAST DINOSAUR IN A DYING INDUSTRY. THOMAS CLONAGGER’S MOTHER, MARY JO, OPENED THE STORE IN 1951. A FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR AT A TIME WHEN ALMOST ALL BUSINESSES WERE RUN BY MEN. CAR TRAVEL BECAME EASIER. PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST CAME TO MARY JO’S. A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT MADE A LIVING OUT OF THE STORE THAT NEVER WORKED HERE. CURTAIN MAKERS, DRAPERY MAKERS, COSTUMERS, WEDDING DRESS DESIGNERS. THE WORLD HAS CHANGED. TEXTILE MAKERS LEFT IN DROVES AND WENT TO COUNTRIES, WHERE THEY COULD MAKE CLOTH CHEAPER. PEOPLE STOPPED MAKING CLOTHES AT HOME. THE INTERNET THEN OPENED THE WORLD TO THE STORE, ALSO PROVIDED CHEAPER CLOTHES. THEY SURVIVED THAT. IN MARCH, 84-YEAR-OLD MARY JO CLONICKER DIED. MARY JO WAS THE ONLY PERSON THAT COULD DO THIS JOB. THOMAS CLONIGGER TOOK OVER THE STORE. BUT THE HEART OF THE BUSINESS WAS GONE. AND SO WERE THE LONG LINES. THOMAS PROMISED HIS MOTHER THAT HE WOULD SELL OFF THEIR INVENTORY WHEN HE RETIRED, THE DOORS WILL CLOSE ON AUGUST 31st. HE WILL NOT STAY TO WATCH THE DEATH OF AN INDUSTRY THAT GAVE BIRTH TO A BUSINESS RUN BY HIS MOTHER. THE INDUSTRY HAS BEEN DYING A SLOW DEATH, AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT, I DO NOT KNOW. MARY JO’S OTHER SON, THE SHERIFF OF GASTON COUNTY SAID ON THE LAST DAY THERE MAY BE A SPECIAL EVENT FOR HIS MOTHER, WHO BUILT AN INTERNATIONAL
