Making The Classic Roll Collar Coat Part 7 Place Interfacing and Stay Stitch Neckline Our next step is to apply the interfacing
and re-enforce corners prior to snipping We also need to stay stitch any seam lines
prone to stretching during the construction process First of all the upper front facing will be interfaced Clip the tailor’s tack
this is one of the most important markings So with the wrong side up lay the interfacing in place Make sure the sticky side is facing down Take your time to place interfacing accurately The edges should match the seam lines Follow the instructions for your particular interfacing Usually you use no steam and medium heat You must always test on a spare piece of fabric Make sure it is well bonded Next we are going to stay-stitch these corners Now for the front The Lower Facing Interfacing
supports the coat front edge I’m measuring down using the Upper Facing Pattern
to check where to place the Lower Interfacing Again, your placing the interfacing
along the stitching line on the wrong side Press long enough for the bonding process Now the turn of the sleeves The interfacing goes here on the cuff part of the sleeve Next, the back neckline is supported with interfacing Always make sure your garment piece is flat
and not distorted before applying interfacing Finally, for a garment with in seam pockets
I like to add interfacing along the front edge again to give a little extra support and
to stop the pocket becoming baggy or gaping open This will help give the coat a professional finish Next we do the stay stitching Stay stitch here at the pocket corners and, we will stay-stitch the back neck edge
of the facing, pivoting at the corners And stay-stitch the back neck edge of the coat back And the front, where the under collar joins
the back neck edge, again pivoting at the corner So, at the machine
with our matching thread and a normal stitch machine a fraction inside the seam line chalk mark
pivoting at the tailors tack This is the Front facing And then the back neck edge of the back piece
shoulder to shoulder Now the turn of the Front Facing Each time, pivoting at the tailor’s tack
