Sewing a Coat, A Sew Along. Part 12, Sewing the In Seam Pockets

Making The Classic Roll Collar Coat Part 12 The Pockets In seam pockets are easy Use the notches for placement Don’t match up using the pocket corners And you’re not lining up to this dot That is on the side seam We are stitching the pocket bag to the pocket extension This is the right side of the coat Let’s get that stitched So after the stitching
we press the seam allowance towards the pocket bag Once we have attached all four of the pocket bags
we can complete the side seams Match your side seams, matching the dots So we stitch to this dot and then around the pocket bag to this dot and then continue to the hem So as always pin first The stitching is done Now we need to snip to the dot This will enable us to press the pocket towards the front We only need to snip the back seam allowance Slide your scissors between the layers
and carefully snip to the dot Do the same at the top of the pocket When you spread your coat out
the pocket falls to the front and you can still press your seam open
below and above This is the line of the pocket
where we want a nice firm fold So we can now press this seam Yes, that looks nice If you think your pockets are going to get a lot of wear you can stitch a bar tack across the seam
at the dots to re-enforce the opening Coming next Part 13 The Sleeves Sewing Tutorials supported by
