Sustainability in Fashion: Remodelling Old Fur Coat

One of the things that I absolutely love
about working with fur is it’s almost four-dimensional. You’ve got the ability to work with patterns – you’re cutting from 2D in a pattern. You’re creating in
cloth into a 3D garment. It’s like engineering’s and sculpting a piece of clothing. It’s natural and it is sustainable. It’s
also biodegradable unlike all those synthetic fabrics out there today made
of plastic. As fashion has change from generation to generation fur can be remodeled into a new contemporary design. I am converting an outdated 80s style coat Shortening it up, adding in a more gathered waist. Shortening sleeves and
bringing them in with some shirred cuffs. Instead of having a crossover section
with buttons and hooks we’re changing to a zip using a bread of color in the tape
so we’re going to bring out this really vibrant blue. It’s more of a casual
garment. Young people are wearing fur in a much
more contemporary way than the generations before. Fur might seem like it’s expensive you
have to consider it investment piece. the fact that it can be remodeled and
restyled it’s going to last many generations.
