Textiles Intelligence

This video will demonstrate how to use the
Textiles Intelligence database. This database provides business information on the global
textile and apparel industries, and information on product development and innovations.
You have access to online reports from three publications:
Textile Outlook International Global Apparel Markets
Performance Apparel Markets Access to the online reports complements the
University’s print holdings (see the Textiles Intelligence Guide for more information).
Other reports published by Textiles Intelligence are not included in the Manchester Met Library
subscription to this service. There are a number of ways to access the reports.
For a chronological list, hover over ‘Subscriptions’, and click on one of the three publications.
This will automatically take you to the most recent issue of that publication. The left
hand bar lists reports in this issue. To read the reports, click ‘Download this issue’,
or to locate earlier reports, click ‘View list of reports in other issues’.
This will take you to a list of reports, sorted by issue number, with the most recent first.
Browse reports using the ‘Reports’ section of the drop down menu. Reports can be filtered
by Sector (such as Apparel, Home Textiles, Nonwovens), Region, and Category (such as
Business profiles and Company profiles). Reports that are not included in Manchester Met’s
subscription will be listed; therefore, you will need to click on the title to find out
if you can access that particular report. You can also sign up to email updates on the
‘Reports’ section of the database to alert you when a new report is published. This yellow
link box is located at the bottom of the Reports page.
You can also search the reports by clicking ‘search’ (from the menu at the top of
the page). Make sure to type your search into the ‘search
reports’ box, rather than the website box. If you want to search for a specific phrase,
use quotation marks. Place the name of the publication in quotation marks, followed by
a relevant keyword: for example cotton, or sportswear. Wild card searching (and other
more advanced searching techniques) do not work on this database. Let’s try a search
for “textile outlook” and denim. You can choose for your results to be listed by frequency
(i.e. the number of times the keywords appear), or by date.
Click on the title of the report to get a more in-depth description. This will open
in a new window or tab. The database will only let you download the
full issue, rather than a particular report within it. If it does not give you the option
to download, we do not have access to that particular report. The report may be available
in print. You will need to take a note of the full citation details (including the title
of the report, the publication, the issue number, and publication date) to locate a
particular report within an issue. The journals are located on the Second Floor, East Wing
of All Saints Library, and are arranged alphabetically by journal title.
For more help and information, please ask a member of staff in the library, or visit
