Wearing Glasses Linked To IQ?

Glasses – stereotypically they’re associated with being brainy. But is the stereotype true? Myopia, also known as near sightness, has been scientifically proven to corelate with higher intelligence. The discovery happened in 1958 and has had multiple independent studies following with countries including the USA, Denmark, Singapoure, New Zealand, Israel and the Chez Republic being able to replicate its success. The Gutenberg Health Study in Maines, Germany founded by medical researchers tested 4658 Germans in the age range of 35 to 74 who were near sighted. Their conclusion – higher IQ was more common in those who had myopia. In Israel physical exams and IQ tests of 15 000 people showed that participants with the highest intelligence scores were 3 times as likely to have myopia as their peers. It was originally thought to be due to close up reading, computer games and other up close detailed activities that was the cause. However research now shows otherwise. Despite genetics that do come into play environmental factors such as light deficiency increase the risk of refractive error and are the guilty party at hand. In a myopia study done in Sydney, Australia Katherine Rose, a leading international visual disorder researcher evaluated 4000 school children to see if lack of outdoor activities affected the risk of myopia. Myopia was prevented by 10-14 hours of the outdoors per week. Although light levels and duration of exposure had to be at a certain level to be effective. Tested on mice and monkeys, animal researchers also concur with this conclusion. In Asian countries, compared to other countries, myopia was reported at a whopping 90%. Why is that when in the UK myopia was found in only 20-30% and the United States reported 40%? Retired general internist and former intensive care physician Dr.C shared because many East Asian children study more than other school children and spare more and more time inside they have a lot less exposure to sunlight which induces retinal dopamine which inhibits the growth of the eyeball thus inhibiting the development of myopia. Homework is being set in pre-school and childern starting school receive around 2 hours of homework per day. ”This contrast with the much more relax paced education in Australia where homework is virtually non-existent at pre-school and and minimal in primary school, and where the use coaching schools is really only a feature of the later years of high school.” Dr.Ian Morgan stated. 2. I am myopic, and my iq is 131… My left eye is more myopic than my right as I used to lay my head on my desk cushioned be my left arm in class, and while doing homework, shortening the focal length required, and causing severe headaches because my right eye be came long sighted to compensate.

  3. I have a question, if the lack of exposure to light limits the eyeball growth, it means that people with myopia gnerally have smaller eyes than people that don't have myopia right? It this is true, is it possible for a 14 year old to continue eye ball growth?

  4. I don have myopia but I am one of the smartest people I know… I am better at reading things closer up than far away though.

  5. The reason why i have myopia is because i only sleep 6hrs a day and playing with my phone all day…..does that mean im smart too????

  6. I like how true the result is. In Singapore(an Asian country/not in China), There is a lot of near sighted children. More than half of our class is near-sighted and we get homework every day. Even in holidays, the amount of homework can go up to 15 and the holiday is only for a week. During the holidays, we even need to come back for extra lessons, Co-Curricular activities and even more. Hence, it is no surprise that a lot of Asian students is near sighted.

  7. Well, it's hard for me to believe that statement, but if it turns out to be real, we will have discovered something positive about myopia, at least ๐Ÿ˜…

  8. Not gonna watch the video. It can make sense that glasses are realated to IQ considering when you spend time on the computer or laptop or whatever for a long amount of time it can damage your vision. And for the longest time being on the computer was considered nerdy and all nerds were considered smart. Also it's logical to wear glasses when you need them, while people with a low IQ might not wear them even if they need them, because of looks.

  9. The reason this originated is because people with a higher IQ tend to read a lot, which strains the eyes after years and years it messes up your eyes. Used to be 20/21 eye sight. Now my eyes are shit, and my IQ is in the .1% of the population.

  10. That map is not israel, it's israel AND Palestien . Not Fair for palestinian people … it's enaugh that they were taken off their land , DON'T take them off the map please .

  11. I have myopia, my IQ is about an average, I get strait A's in school however I don't feel like I'm smarter than anyone else. I don't really pay attention or think about stuff like that.

  12. Why is everybody complaining about their perfect sight?Be thankful!if you have myopia you have to wear your glasses 24/7

Also putting on glasses doesn't mean you automatically turn smart (sorry)

  13. I have to wear glasses but I don't ever use them because they are so damn irritating to wear, I don't have contacts either so I'm basically walking around blind as shit hahah, proves my intelligence right there lol

  14. The dumbest person I've ever met wears glasses. She is infamous for being a bully in my school. She picks her nose and eats her boogers. She expects everyone to treat her like a queen.

  15. I'm the only person in my group of friends who doesn't need glasses.

…on a completely unrelated note, I have a C in three of my classes

  16. baaHAJAJAJAHAJAHA My eyes are horrible they need 52-14 lens bABAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHBABAHAHAHHAHAiam still the dumbest of the dumbiasseiest of the dumb fatasses

  17. I started wearing glasses about 2 and a 1/2 years ago.It does seem that I am a bit smarter than people,at school I usually have the advanced classes with my classmates(a lot of them wear glasses too).I actually never really liked sunlight and I usually am not even exposed to the sun for 10 minutes.(I HATE sunlight). This is very sad.I think it has something to do witj genes since my mom's skin is very sensitive. This is interesting though. Also, does this relate to the sterotype if asians wearing glasses?(No offense…and Im also an asian)

  18. I wear glasses because I'm on my phone too much. No,really, when I got my phone my sight went from 20/20 to 9/20. So,cool cool

  19. 1. Lack of light => Lack of Visual Development
    2. Lack of Vision => Increased Imagination (Intensifies Effort into Figuring out Whats Going on Beyond Range of Visual Focus.)
    3. Increased Imagination (by forced training) => Plentyful Scenarios
    4. Higher Variations => Higher amount of Conclusions
    5. More Conclusions having to be made => Greater Span of Attention
    6. Enhanced Mental Attention => Handling more numbers/situations/outcomes at a time.
    7. Handling More Information at Once => Greater Problemsolving (Being able to practice jumbling information into correctness)
    8. Greater Problemsolving = Higher IQ.

  20. At this point I have disabling myopia and retinal problems because of the tension my eye is constantly under… Laser Therapy, frequent check-ups and a new pair of glasses each half a year is a necessity for me to be able to see anything at all.
When I was a child, I was outside literally every minute of my free time, while at the same time already having myopia without knowing it. I thought everything was supposed to look the way it did. ^^' I THINK that I might have a slightly higher IQ than average, though it is not noticeable anymore in high school, since I focus my time and energy a lot more on other topics, which are not related to school subjects, I'm really interested in.
But since I apparently lived my whole life with myopia (magna) I guess mine rather has a genetic origin, since my mother and especially my grandfather have myopia as well, even though their is not even close to my level of myopia.

  21. I'm middle-aged, I played outside a lot as a kid, and look at me: I STILL HAVE 20/20 VISION! I LOVE MY NAKED EYES! ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. I certainly feel smarter than everyone else. Though thatโ€™s more because Iโ€™m an asshole than because itโ€™s true, though it is.
