Wearing White After Labor Day Is OKAY | Style Expert Clinton Kelly

Can you wear white after Labor Day? Oh!
I feel like the rules have changed. Look how interested you all are in that. I might get attacked for this one.
This is a good one, can you?
Okay, first, before I answer that question, I wanna say one thing to you, okay? Let’s stand up, Rachael ’cause I want, for emphasis. Okay, here’s the thing. You’re not getting dressed in the morning to impress other people, okay? You’re not getting dressed in the morning to prove to a bunch of strangers that you’re going to adhere to a rule that is a hundred years old that nobody knows who actually wrote the rule. (audience clapping)
Okay, so. Your goal when you get dressed in the morning is to feel great about yourself. So, if you love your white jeans or you love a white blouse, or even you love your white shoes, you should wear them anytime of the year if it makes you feel good about yourself. That’s the most important thing. Don’t listen to the rules. The rules have gone out the window.
(audience clapping) Celebrities wear white after Labor Day all the time. I mean, we have a great picture of Anna Kendrick. She was wearing white, her white jeans, you would never look at Anna Kendrick there and be like, “Oh, I can’t believe she’s “wearing white after Labor Day!” She looks amazing.
No, you say she looks so cute.
Yeah, right. Same thing with Mindy Kaling, she does it, as well. White can really be used as an impact color. Oh, Mindy looks gorgeous in that.
Doesn’t she look great? And there’s a winter-y white. Like, it doesn’t have to be like, super summer, super bleached out, linen-y white, it can be a lovely, creamy white.
Absolutely. And it’s about, use your common sense, you don’t wear your white boots, or your white dress, or your white pants on a rainy, slushy day in New York City when you know they’re gonna get filthy, but if it’s a beautiful day in the middle of January, why not?
I think white in the winter is very chic, personally. I always think, “Oh, look at you.” (audience applauding)
I agree. Just, while we’re on the topic of fashion, I’ve been getting questions from men a lot lately about socks. The topic of socks.
Yes, wear them! (both laughing) Look! Oh, no!
(audience laughing) I’m so sorry, Clinton! No, but socks are a new thing for men. I mean, men’s pants are cut more narrow these days and a little bit shorter. So, if you’re getting very dressed up, and you wanna look very traditionally, classically handsome, your socks should match your pants. However, if you want your socks to be a pop of color or a pop of pattern.
Or a statement because they cut a little shorter? I see.
Exactly! Then you can do a fun sock. Or you could even go with no socks like I’m doing with a little half a sock in there. A little,
A little half sock. A little pedi, a man-pedi.
Oh, you do have a man-pedi? I’ve got a little sock in there. They make them for men too!
Peek-a-boo, okay. I’m gonna get some for my hubby. John is sock-obsessed.
Is he? Oh my god.
They’re a thing! Socks and scarves. He’s all about the socks.
Does he ever match the sock to the scarf? Oh god, let’s not go down this road. (laughing)
We’d need a whole segment. (audience cheering)
