What should I wear at work | Acas Most Asked

One question that we’ve been asked on
the helpline is can men and women have different dress codes in the same
workplace? Employers often want workers to dress a certain way when they come to
work they might want to project a corporate image, they might want workers
to wear a uniform or they might want workers to wear a hairnet when they’re
working with food for hygiene reasons or they might want workers not to wear
loose clothing when operating certain machinery. In order for workers to know
how they should dress when they come to work it’s advisable that an
employer has a dress code policy and that this dress code policy is not
unlawfully discriminatory to anyone An employer may need to look at making what
the law calls reasonable adjustments to any dress code policy so as not to
discriminate against disabled workers. They may also need to bear in mind
certain workers who wear clothing for religious reasons
