What Socks to Wear with Shoes & Boots

– What Socks to Wear With
What Shoes comin’ up. (contemporary music) Hi ladies, it’s Erin and
welcome back to my channel. Through my channel, Busbee
Style, my goal and mission is to tell women just like
you who are busy juggling life look like you have your act
together even if you don’t. Today I want to break
down the sock dilemma. I have gotten this question so many times. What socks do I wear with those shoes, what socks do I wear with those
boots, socks, socks, socks. I’m breaking it all down. I’m gonna make it easy for you guys so you don’t have anymore questions. Let’s do it. Okay so first, I wanna
just address sandals, open toe sandals, or peep toe booties. There’s a lot of stuff with toes showing. Can you wear socks with those? There is a trend happening
in fashion right now where people are wearing a very
thin, slightly scrunched sock or mesh sock with pumps or sandals. Can you do that? Absolutely, you can. If you’re cooler than I
am, you certainly can. I don’t feel like I can
do it, but you might. You might feel like, yes, I’m
gonna rock that all day long, and you have at it. Essentially, that’s going to be taking a little thin sock like this. And it doesn’t have to be black. It could be white. It could be like I said, mesh. Essentially, it looks like that. Traditionally with like
a mule or a sandal, or a peep toe booty, or
anything where toes are exposed and the back is open, you
are going to wear bare feet, no socks, okay. So that’s number one. Number two is the ballet flat. What do you wear with a ballet flat? Because it’s short in the front, it’s not that tall in that back. It shows a lot of your foot. What the heck do you wear? You’re gonna do something like this. This is a little ped with
a bit of spandex in it. And all of these peds traditionally
have a little tiny bit of rubber at the heel. So then that sort of keeps it in place. Do these always stay in place? A 100% no. In fact, they usually kind
of slip down past your heel. The sticky part helps. Another thing to consider when
you’re picking out your ped is you know like this one,
the shoe has perforations. So I would do a color that
is similar to the shoe. And also I would look for a ped, and I’ll put a link to some below, look for a pair that only has
3% spandex, not 50% spandex. Because the more spandex
that’s in the ped, the more slippery it will be. And if it’s more like nylons or stockings, then it’s gonna make your feet all sweaty. This is one with like 50% spandex. And you an see right through it. Yeah, so can see, it’s
like pantyhose, see. I think it’s uncomfortable. It think it makes your feet hot. So you look for the pair
with just a little bit of spandex in it like this one. I like the brand, Keds for these peds. Again, because of the blend, just a little bit of
spandex and more cotton. So that covers ballet flat
and what sock do you wear under the ballet flat. Okay next, I want to address
the ankle bootie that’s short. So here’s three examples
of ankle boots that I have that are all around the same size. Here’s a black pair,
here’s another black pair, and here’s a tan pair. So with these guys, what I would do is, I would wear a short crew sock. So you see this sock here
how it has just about an inch and a half at the top here. So it’s still shorter than the bootie, but it’s going to stay up. You know, you don’t have to
worry about pulling it up or the heel falling down like you would with those little ped socks
that I just showed you. So I really like these
crew socks for the booties and I have a ton of them because
I wear them all the time. I also like to wear them with
slippers around the house. It’s just my go to little sock. And this one is by the line Hue, H U E. However if you want to,
there is nothing wrong with wearing a marled or
heathered sock with a bootie and a shorter jean. Like, there’s no problem
with seeing like just a little tiny bit or sliver of your sock. So I could do either these
or the gray version of these with my black bootie. And then the jeans you know
that come up to right here. So you’re only seeing
about one inch of the sock. And if the sock’s black or this
really dark gray, who cares? I mean, it looks totally fine. Don’t sweat that. So if you really wanna wear a longer sock, this is the way to go. Now I wouldn’t go too
long because especially if you have skinny jeans on, the socks are gonna bunch
up underneath your jeans. But a sock this height is fine. And then if you want to make
sure that they’re extra warm, you look for a pair
with wool in the blend. One of the premier brands
for that is Smartwool. But you can get wool blend
socks at Target on target.com. I’ll put some links below. And I bought a bunch at
target.com and they’re great. And I have the Smartwool
ones and they’re great. And I have UGG ones and they’re great. So just look for the blend with some wool. Now, what if you have a
taller boot like these? You can go short crew. You can go the longer crew
like I just showed you. Or, you can have a little
sock peeping out the top. There is nothing wrong with that. It’s a cute look. I can do something like this, yeah. Just like a little peeping
out with your jean. Super cute. So you could do something like that. But I would say when in doubt, just go with a sock that
falls somewhere below the top of the boot and you’re fine. Or, tuck the sock into your
jeans so that the jeans hide the socks. And then obviously, you put
your jeans into the boots. So, that’s what you do with a taller boot. You can do the same things
with your rain boots, your really tall rain boots. If you wanna have a boot sock with those, there are the really
cute Hunter boot socks. Or, just a sock a little bit
peeping out and scrunched. That’s a cute look also. Have at it, do it. You could have a contrasting color or a very complimentary color, up to you. Okay, so I hope that
helps you guys with your sock, shoe, boot dilemma and
makes it a lot more clear. Let me know if you have any questions. Did I miss a shoe, did I miss a boot? There’s always the
possibility I did and you guys will let me know. I’ll put some links, suggested

  1. Hey Erin! Knowing which type of socks to wear is a small but important detail. I had this dilemma yesterday. And now I know how to fix the problem! Thanks!

  2. Hi Erin, I love to wear my socks showing above my ankle boots, I feel if I have spent that much on my Smartwool or Frye socks, I want them to show. Also, I would like to buy a pair of white jeans and could really use your help on suggestions. Could you do a video with recommendations and also panties for no visible panty line? I read that the Chantelle soft stretch seamless panty is good or is there something better? If you want to suggest sandal, casual and dress shoes with white jeans, that would be great too. Maybe pastel jeans and tops too? Sorry if my list is long, I trust your opinions.

  3. In cold weather, I like my cute socks to show between ankle boots and jeans. I love just a bit of an animal print sock showing with black or brown ankle boots!

  4. Thank you for this great video!! Your hair looks so silky and gorgeous! Please share your secrets (if you donโ€™t mind my asking!)!

  5. thank you, thank you, thank you. I recognized all the boots with the exception of the pair you showed with the UGG socks.. do tell…

  6. Hi Erin! I love it as always! What socks do you wear with sneakers? I don't mind showing my socks, but I have noticed that most people don't even wear socks with their fashionable sneakers. I don't like blisters and my skin is so sensitive to those! What do you recommend? Thank you so much!!

  7. I have some booties that cover the top of my foot and hit just below the ankle bone. [Don't know the official name for them] . . .I've been wearing a sock that I think is called an invisible crew? It's thicker than a ped and hit's just about where the bootie hits–I believe they are designed to be worn with athletic sneakers. Mine are black "Smartwool". There is maybe an eighth inch reveal? That's if I'm wearing a skinny jean. With a flare leg, I wear whatever is weather appropriate because I don't worry they will be seen. One rule I've always followed is make your socks match your shoes. You didn't mention that. What do you think about all that. I know it's a lot.

  8. I'm so with you on never wearing socks w sandals. It is a look I think is best left for the young and avantgard type fashionistas! On the rest of us, it is just WEIRDDD๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿคฃ Great tips, thanks!

  9. Great video as always. I personally never expose my socks because TO ME it is tacky. For ballet shoes here in Canada we have toe socks that just fit over your toes with grips on the bottom so your heel is bare but nothing shows which is my preference and they work like magic. ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

  10. A one inch strip of Hollywood fashion tape (get it at Target) on the back of the heel and the peds will stay put all day.

  11. great video, thanks! love the black short boots with all the straps and a smaller heel. What are those? Love them, thanks for all you do

  12. Good practical vid! Q: What do you do if the "no show" socks shows w/ sneakers?! I have the "no show" socks that come in the big pack from Walmart. Is there a better cut/brand I should know about? thx!

  13. For us ladies with big feet: Aldo men's liner socks are the best! I find that ladie's sizes are usually too short for me, they barely cover my toes, but the men's sizes are a much better fit. Also the Aldo ones in particular have a lot of rubber in the back that helps them stay in place.

  14. Thank you Erin for this sock & bootie video…it was so helpful!!! You are so informative and I really appreciate you keeping all of us in fashion!

  15. I never new how much I needed the information in this video until I saw it. I have gone the safe route of sock under jeans in my boot, but I never once considered a sock an accessory until now. I am intrigued! I have taken some fashion risks that I have enjoyed. Perhaps socks are a next!

  16. For the adventurous, Sock Dreams online store based in Portland takes sock accessorizing to a new level ๐Ÿ™‚ I find the peds Nordstrom carries have lasted longest and they werenโ€™t ridiculously expensive.

  17. Oh my my you are making me drool over these boots hunny!! Thanks for sharing such a collection <3 Sharon

  18. Erin quick question for you when u wear sweaters with a leather Moto do u go up in size on the jacket or do u stick true to size

  19. Amazing! I never thought about having a sneek peek sock on top of my rain boots. I really think it will be Adorable. Thanks for the heads up!

  20. Very helpful, only wished that there was a try on visual for each sock/boot/jeans example, as I like to see what look is best suited on me. Can you pls do one on bras, specifically what to wear underneath for sweaters with cutouts in back, and asymmetrical tops.

  21. Good info. I realize i hate to spend money on socks! I would not argue they are unimportant; it's just hard for me. Of course, as i get older i appreciate things like good socks and underwear and bras more, lol! It is super helpful to have this guide from you to prioritize what is needed.

  22. Hi Erin, thank you so much for the video. It was very helpful! May I ask what brand are those brown boots (or tall boot) at the end of the video? So cute!! :))

  23. What can you do if your no-show socks are showing in ballet flats? They are fine in the back, but at the toe you can still see the fabric. I have small feet (size 5) so I bought the smallest size sock thinking it would work.

  24. I've been sooo happy since I found the peds! I love your ballet flats! I really hated the whole idea of the flats when they came back in fashion. I'm a young 51 and I went through the eighties flats and hated them. I wore pumps every chance I got! My feet are paying for it now as I can't even go to dinner in heels unless they're low and chunky. Love your channel! As a matter of fact, I think you're my favorite! Thanks for your hard work! You're lovely!

  25. Hey Erin, Can you please do a video about styling flats with nylons or dress socks for the fall/winter? I don't really care for this style but sometimes when its cold I reach for flats with my jeans or dress trousers for work but not sure what looks good……thank you

  26. What about a short booty like a Vince Cammuto with a cut away in it. I am always confused by this . They have a side slit do you wear socks with that?

  27. For the lower ankle boot I use men's loafer/boat socks because the come up over the top of the arch of my foot but don't show. The rubber at the back is larger so they don't creep off. Get mine off Amazon.

  29. Iโ€™ve tried tons on socks for boots and if Iโ€™ve been walking I feel this burning sensation in my soles, I guess itโ€™s the friction of the sock ๐Ÿ˜ญ

  30. What about ankle booties with cut outs by the heel and mid foot?
    See this example:

I would do bare foot, but my feet sweat and then I get blisters. What do you recommend?
