Invention of Clothes Asa: Eeeek what’s that smell? Casa: It’s the smell of Neanderthals, our
ancestors tanning leather. Asa: What for? Casa: They used animal skins to keep warm
during winter. Asa: And summers? Casa: Well, they didn’t wear anything. Asa: How immodest. I’m a dinosaur. I’m allowed to be immodest. Casa: No stitching tools such as needles were
ever found at a Neanderthal site, which means they probably wore unsewn hides. Asa: Then when did man start stitching clothes? Casa: Let’s find out. Simple needles made out of animal bone provide
evidence of sewn leather and fur garments from at least 30,000 years ago. Asa: So that’s how clothes came into existence!
