THE ROBERTS FAMILY IS LOOKING THROUGH OLD PICTURES OF D-W MYERS. HE SERVED IN WORLD WAR 2 FOR 4 YEARS. UNTIL RECENTLY THESE PICTURES WERE THE ONLY ITEMS LEFT FROM HIS TIME IN THE MILITARY – UNTIL D.W.’S GRANDSON SAW A FACEBOOK POST FROM NORMANDY, FRANCE THAT SHOWED HIS GRANDPA’S UNIFORM. “I found the guy that made the post on facebook that sent the post to the Topeka history Geeks. He miraculously accepted my friend request.” THE BUYER IS A MILITARY MEMORABILIA COLLECTOR AND FOUND THE UNIFORM AT AN ANTIQUE SHOP. HE HAD GROWN ATTACHED TO IT BUT PROMISED HE WOULD SELL THE UNIFORM TO THE ROBERTS – IF HE FOUND ANOTHER. “He contacted me about two weeks later and said I’m not sure yet because I don’t have it in my possession, the pictures are pretty grainy. But I think I have another uniform of your grandfather’s.” ON BOTH OF THE UNIFORMS – THE INITIALS W. D. MYERS CAN BE FOUND – SIGNALING THEY BELONGED TO DARIUS. THE MAN WHO FOUND THE UNIFORMS SAW HOW MUCH THEY MEANT TO THE ROBERTS AND SOLD THEM BOTH TO THE FAMILY. “It’s so wonderful to have something like that in our family. You know I never ever thought that was possible.” THE TWO UNIFORMS NOW SIT PROUDLY IN HANDMADE SHADOW BOXES IN THE D.W.’S DAUGHTERS HOME. “The family will spend their Memorial day remembering those who served, now with a tangible memory of their loved one.
